Where New Jersey Goes Wild and Free

Hundreds of acres of trails, gardens, and open sky await just off Sloatsburg Road in Ringwood.

About Us

Rated 4.7 stars across nearly 2,400 visits, Ringwood State Park earns that reputation one trail at a time. The park spans multiple distinct areas, each with its own character, so a single trip rarely covers everything worth seeing. Hikers return season after season because the terrain genuinely shifts with the calendar, offering something different in April mud season than in October leaf color.

The well-blazed trail network is one of the park's most consistently praised features. Markers are clear, maintained, and spaced in a way that keeps you oriented without turning the woods into a theme park. Families bring kids, photographers bring tripods, and solo walkers bring nothing but time. The gardens draw a devoted crowd of their own, with visitors making annual pilgrimages to catch the seasonal blooms at their peak.

Parking is available on-site, making it straightforward to arrive and head straight to whichever section of the park you have in mind. The park sits at 1304 Sloatsburg Rd in Ringwood, NJ, close enough to the metro area to feel accessible but far enough that the tree canopy actually closes over your head.

What We Offer

The park's appeal is spread across several zones rather than concentrated in one spot. Trail walkers have a range of routes to choose from, with clear blazing that reviewers consistently call out as a genuine asset. Whether you want a short loop or a longer push into the hills, the network accommodates both without much guesswork.

The garden areas are a destination in their own right, drawing visitors specifically for photography and seasonal walks. They are well maintained and offer a more structured natural experience than the backcountry trails. Families with children will find clean playground facilities on the grounds, though shade and seating in open areas can be limited during peak summer heat.

The park is open every day of the week, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, giving you a generous window to plan around weather or a busy schedule. For full current details on programs, permits, and seasonal access, the official NJ State Park website at nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/ringwoodstatepark.html is the most reliable source.

"Trails were well blazed and maintained. Not the best place for a hike with the constant gunfire at the skeet range and all the low flying aircraft. It's a once and done deal for me. The trail maps posted at the trail heads in the parking lot do not match what is posted online on the park's website. The trail colors are also different on the physical map vs the one online. Beware!"

"Beautiful Ringwood State Park has several different areas to visit and experience. The playground is clean and well kept, however, during the hotter months with no shade in sight or benches for adults could become an issue. Potties were in awful condition, I hope they fix and take the spiders out because this park really is beautiful!"

"Ringwood State Park is an absolute gem with the Shepard Lake, epic hiking & mountain biking trails that provides beautiful panaromic views. You've got these huge, ancient trees that create this incredible, almost magical light filtering through. And the Skyland Manor adds another dimension to the whole park. They've got this rustic, timeless vibe that just works. Multiple natural backdrops with incredible textures are our favorite at this park. If you're the kind of couple who wants something different, something authentic in your engagement/wedding photos, and you don't mind a little bit of adventure, Ringwood State Park is a total gem. P.S. - a permit is required for professional photography/cinematography."

"This is a very awesome park to go to I know the last time I rated it was 8 years ago but now that I've been able to see more things and they're currently doing renovations on the manner and they are currently doing renovations on a few other things to make it more accessible and more fun but it's always a good time to see it especially on mother's Day (all photos taken or taken with my s24 ultra in telephoto mode with a 12 mp lens)"
